01.21.2006
HHI's Engine & Machinery Division had successfully delivered the first three sets of 5H17/28 diesel generating sets which had been ordered from Kaptanoglu group in Turkey. The division had developed a new model of 4-stroke HiMSEN H17/28 diesel engines in December 2004 and got an order of 9 sets of 5H17/28 diesel generating sets from the Turkish owner at the same time. Kaptanoglu, a shipbuilding company, showing the confidence in HHI’s engine products over the years became the first to order the new engine. The remains of 6 set HiMSEN engines will be delivered in this year.

The new engine (H17/28) is the third model in HHI’s own brand of HiMSEN engine line that was developed through in-house technology. Equipped with high pressure and high efficiency turbocharger, the new engine has greatly improved its performance. The Engine & Machinery division expects demand for the engine to increase as it becomes utilized as an electric generator in ships.

The cylinder bore of the new engine measures 170mm with a piston stroke of 280mm. It has a speed of 900 to 1,000 revolutions per minute, producing 575~960kW based on the 120kW per cylinder. The engine has the lowest output capacity of the three engine models within the HiMSEN line, while it is practical and environment-friendly.

The engine measures 5.5m in length, 2.2m in height, 1.2m in width, and 17 ton in weight. It has eight(8) cylinders and its propulsion equals that of ten(10) mid-size cars.
