An order of HiMSEN engine for marine propulsion

01.21.2003
HHI has concluded a supply contract for main propulsion engines and shafting systems with domestic shipbuilders since its own developed HiMSEN engine was chosen as propulsion engines for 499-ton fishery patrol vessel of Fisheries Patrol Vessel Management Office of Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

The contract includes six sets of HiMSEN 8H25/33 type (3,155 bhp) main propulsion engines (two per ship) and propulsion systems such as reduction gears and CPP’s, which will be delivered to the yards this August.

The shipbuilders are Yong-Sung Shipbuilding for one ship in Keo-je island and Il-Heung Shipbuilding & Engineering for 2 ship in Mok-po. Targeting delivery date of November 20, 2003, the final contract was reached through technical agreement with the yards. This adoption of Hyundai’s own model opened a new era of localized for Hyundai’s small- & medium-sized marine propulsion engines.

Presently MMAF has 25 fishery patrol vessels and most of them are 10 or 20 years old, outworn and of low speed which are not sufficient to control modernized fishing boats, consequently, it is planning to have total of 25 newly built vessels, 3 to 4 vessels a year, in order to make their patrol vessels bigger and faster (over 20 knots) for fishing control in the near-sea. When selecting propulsion engines this time, MMAF formed an Equipment Selection Committee including experts from the academic and R&D circles to do comparison and analysis work with the engines installed and being used in the existing patrol boats, and selected home-made HiMSEN engine, which provides the engine’s superiority in the aspect of price as well as technology.

HiMSEN engine has stepped into marine propulsion engine market after marine & stationary generating engine market through which the engine is increasing smoothly its market share by diversification.
