Achievement of 90 Million BHP in 2-Stroke Diesel Engines

 | Hyundai Heavy Industries Engine & Machinery Division (HHI-EMD), the world¡¯s biggest marine engine manufacturer, achieved an aggregate 90 million bhp on September 10.
With the accomplishment of 90 million bhp production in 2-Stroke diesel engines, Hyundai Heavy Industries is now emerging as a major player in the international arena by surpassing much older European and Japanese competitors.
Since it first engine in 1979, HHI achieved 10 million bhp in 1992, 20 million in 1997, 30 million in 2001, 40 million in 2003, 50 million in 2005, 70 million in 2007 and 80 million in 2008. Hyundai Heavy Industries has strengthened its status as the No.1 marine engine manufacturer by taking 35% of world marine engine market share.
If this trend continues, HHI-EMD is expected to reach the remarkable 100million bhp by 2010.
The 93,360 bhp engine is HHI¡¯s 3020th engine. It has the same power as 670 cars. The engine is 25m long, 15m high, 19m wide and weighs 2100t. It also features 12 cylinders, each with a diameter of 98cm. This engine will be installed on an 8,600TEU containership for Hapag-Lloyd of Germany.
Since it topped marine engine field in 1988, HHI-EMD has maintained its status as a frontrunner in the industry. HHI has manufactured the world¡¯s largest marine engines and next generation marine engines equipped with advanced communication technology.
HHI¡¯s in-house brand HiMSEN engine has been recognized as one of the Korea¡¯s top 10 technologies since 2000 and HHI has grown 100% every year.
HHI¡¯s Engine & Machinery Division manufactures 2-stroke engines & 4-stroke engines, propellers, and pumps for marine Industrial applications, as well as diesel power plants (DPP), packaged power stations (PPS) and industrial robots. As of 2009, HHI-EMD¡¯s 12 World Class Products are showing HHI¡¯s competitiveness and advanced technology.
